Sort of like postcards. Only different.

He's okay now

He's okay now, but earlier this week Christian was very sick. Lots of throwing up and diarrhea which led to dehydration as it often does in babies. He spent a day and a night in the hospital on an IV drip getting rehydrated, poor little thing. He hated the needle in the back of his hand, the splint and bandage they wrapped it in to keep him from pulling it out, the line leading away to the drip bag. He hated the hospital bed, and being examined, and not being able to twirl his hair the way he does as he drifts off to sleep. He hated not being allowed to eat and he hated the electrolite drink they gave him. When they discharged him and we took him to the car he smiled to see the car, smiled in his car seat, smiled when we walked in the door back home. He's still not his old self yet - he is tired and weak and under-weight - but he's glad to be home and he smiles again.

In the Pediatric ER

Drip drip drip
glucose drip drip drip
saline drip drip drip
minutes drip drip drip
as you sleep
linked by a long looping line leading
from your small blue vein
drip drip drip
to my heart.
